Logistics & transportation.

Trucks, trailers, drivers, loads, and the TMS that ties them together. I built the system Greater Omaha Packing's security, transportation and shipping teams use to keep it all moving.

Greater Omaha Packing

Greater Omaha Packing, a meat-processing operation in Omaha that ships nationwide, needed better tracking and coordination of drivers, trucks and trailers across three departments. I built them a custom Django application:

  • Security: iPad check-in and check-out for trucks, drivers and trailers, with real-time visibility of what's entering and leaving the facility.
  • Transportation: order and load management, with automated order imports tied to specific trailers.
  • Shipping: trailer locations and driver availability, coordinated with warehouse loading schedules.
  • McLeod TMS: data imported from McLeod for reporting and invoice generation, so the app works as a bridge between systems.
  • Operations: downtime and production tracking, chain speeds, efficiency calculations and detailed reports.

What I help with

  • TMS integrations for orders, loads, reporting and invoicing.
  • Gate, dock and yard tools that work on a tablet in the hands of the people doing the job.
  • Dispatch and shipping dashboards that show the same truth to every department.
  • Production and downtime reporting for operations leadership.
  • Hosting and monitoring for the apps your operation can't afford to lose.

Usually a good fit when

  • Dispatch and the dock run on whiteboards, spreadsheets and phone calls.
  • Your TMS has the data, but the people at the gate and on the dock can't see it.
  • Someone re-keys orders or loads between systems every day.
